Grate kiln

The traveling grate is one of the key components of the Grate-Kiln ® technology, which largely determines the reliability and efficiency of the process of pelletizing iron ore concentrate into solid reels.

The Mashdetal Trading team has unique author’s design developments and production technologies, namely:

  • heat-resistant alloy of the fifth generation for any operating conditions
  • post-fire metal processing in the SIMIMOTO (JAPAN) facility
  • optimal design of lattice plates and rods taking into account thermal expansion
  • unique integral design of the side plate
  • the possibility of production of grid components by vacuum casting for reliable operation even with excessive loads, thermal cycles and chemical corrosion
  • production of all parts under the single standard at the facilities of Mashdetal Trading

These features allow:

  1. to increase the service life of the equipment up to 5 years
  2. to simplify maintenance and operation
  3. to increase the efficiency of the technological process.

All parts of the travelling grate sections are manufactured by Mashdetal Trading SRO in the European Union under the single production standard and quality control, which makes it possible to provide a single manufacturer guarantee.

Within the limits allowed by the standard, the content of chemical elements of the ASTM HH heat-resistant alloy is selected in such a way that the grate plates and the rod linear expansion are in the same range of thermal expansion which eliminates the formation of thermal gaps between the width of the surface between the plates.

The end surfaces of the grate plates and chain links are CNC machined with an accuracy of 0.1mm, which guarantees linear chain of dimensions for the width of the travelling grate throughout the entire life cycle.

The casted parts are fabricated using a modern automatic molding facility, which brings the utmost surface roughness, finishing operations are carried out by the robotic complex. Both factors favorably affect the life cycle and reduce thermal damage during the operation of the casted parts.

Heat-resistant alloys undergo out-of-furnace processing in the SIMIMOTO (JAPAN) machine to reduce the content of sulfur, which is highly undesirable for ensuring the heat-resistant properties of casted parts, to max 0.015%

The use of out-of-furnace modification of casted parts with rare earth metals, master alloys and compounds significantly increase crack resistance, resistance to thermal destruction as well as the the period of trouble-free operation.

Advantages and design features of the improved design with 1 year warranty period of operation:

The possibility of using a solid cast side plate allows quitting the use of numerous fasteners that carry the risk of emergency shutdowns during a service life of 4 years. The use of a cast abrasion-resistant insert embedded in the body in a fasteners design also guarantees the durability of the operation.

The possibility of using more heat-resistant steels ASTM A297 HL-MOD in the production of the casted parts of the plate for 2 years’ trouble-free operation becomes possible even with a significant increase in line output and operation in adverse conditions of thermal cycles and chemical corrosion with additives of potentially aggressive components in raw materials or into the fuel.

Applications of the standard 12-grate plate of a quick-release design grate made of a modified ASTM A297 HL-MOD alloy in rows 1-3 and 12-15 (or across the entire belt) brings the 11% grate gas permeability increase, which improves the quality at a stable output (or boosts productivity by 11% while maintaining acceptable quality standards). The quick-detachable plate has a standard design and can be used in standard design sections.

The use of the modified alloy ASTM A297 HK-Mod links extends the life of subject most thermally loaded grating elements, and the use in conjunction with internal abrasion-resistant segment inserts with a hardness of up to 60HRC extends their service life up to 4 years.

A reinforced spacer tube compensates for the volumetric expansion of the belt and deformation of the plates and allows easy replacement of plates while increasing the reliability of the frame without its width deformation.
